Planting the Raspberries
posted by: Digitalquill in Photos, Raspberries on 02 28th, 2009 | |

I bought two raspberry canes from Homebase the other night, and wanted to get them planted, so that was one job that I got onto today.

The packaging had good instructions, firstly instructing you to soak the root balls for an hour before planting, so the first thing I did to day at the allotment was put them into a bucket of water. I then planted them in the fruit age, teasing out some of the roots from the root ball, and making sure that there was a good amount of manure under them.

I was going to plant them side-by-side, thinking that they would take up much more room than they need. However when I found that they only need 40cm between plants I put them across the fruit plot between the uprights for the fruit cage frame. This will enable me to tie strings or wires between these uprights and provide support for the plants in that way.

I have more room in that plot than I thought, so I may still buy and add some more soft fruit to that area.
