I have recently upgraded my car from a Volvo s40 saloon to a V50 estate equipped with a tow-bar. The first time down to the allotment was also the first time to the allotment in the new car and it was a delight to be able to couple up the trailer to collect sand and [...]
Yesterday I went down to the allotment for the first time for about 4 months. I have already made my excuses in previous posts as to why i had not been to the allotment in such a long time, but I was expecting to find that the plot was in a mess, however I was pleasantly [...]
I thought I would do a photographic update this week rather than a video update, just as something a little different, I am pleased witht he progress, everything apart from the dwarf french beans are coming along well. I may plant some in pots back here at home and see if they can establish themselves [...]
Although it is not the time to be planting Runner Beans or French Beans, I decided to prepare the support for them. This is a fairly simple task that many people take to an art form. I however and more interested in getting the job done and making it functional. First insert two parallel rows [...]
I bought two raspberry canes from Homebase the other night, and wanted to get them planted, so that was one job that I got onto today. The packaging had good instructions, firstly instructing you to soak the root balls for an hour before planting, so the first thing I did to day at the allotment [...]
Cheryl, Eva, Kieth and Mavis came to see me at the allotment today, unfortunatly Cheryl managed to get hold of my camera before I could stop her!
Probably over done it on the potatoes, but hey!!! I know some people who may take some.
I prepared and planted the fist carrots today, in fact these were actually the first seeds to be planted on the allotment. You can see from the photographs below how I prepared the plot, which is at one end of the raised bed area. Firstly I dug in two bags of sharp sand, this breaks [...]
On Sunday I took a walk down to the allotment, with a wheel barrow full of veg peelings, a few funny looks from passers by, but hey! I wanted to get a bean trench prepared. I took a video of the preparation. How to prepare a bean trench Dig a small trench, 1 spit deep [...]
In addition to the last video post, I planted the Rhubarb that I dug up from one of our properties some time ago. It has been stuck in a couple of heavy duty bags for the last month or so and has begun to sprout, so time really was of the essence. I decided to [...]
I took some more pictures of the allotment while I was measuring up today, this time with my camera rather than mobile phone. Thought I would upload them.
I found the allotment plot on Google Earth, so here is a little pic of what it looks like from the air. Not in great resolution as Hull is not important enough to photograph in detail!
I have just taken Eva down to see the allotment, still covered in snow! I took some pictures on my mobile phone. I hope to re-visit tomorrow to get some better ones with camera, and to measure up the plot so that I can start planning.
